EUROPEAN CENTRE OF VOCATIONAL EXCELLENCE IN MICROELECTRONICS

620101-EPP-1-2020-1-BG-EPPKA3-VET-COVE(2020 – 2024)

ECoVEM project brings together VET centres, polytechnics, industrial associations, social partners to establish European Cooperation platform of Vocational Excellence in Microelectronics to tackle the challenges of: digitalisation, artificial intelligence, green technologies, gender equality and technology, integration of migrants. ECoVEM builds on and complements the strengths of national VET systems in countries with more-advanced VET and supports the not so advanced regions to achieve VET excellence. ECoVEM implements innovative instructional approaches towards life-long capacity to self-regulate learning, hard skills and soft skills using the ecosystems-based theoretical models and performance support systems.

Outcomes and Impact

ECoVEM Objectives

Networking of CoVEs, industrial and social partners to share ideas, and experiences towards vocational excellence in microelectronics

To develop innovative VET curricula for EQF 3 to 8 in Microelectronics in collaboration with companies and social partners

To disseminate the microelectronics achievements in digitalisation, green energy, robotics, space technologies and medicine to raise the attractiveness of VET and microelectronics through open days, international schools and competitions

To ensure sustainable governance at national and EU levels

To tackle non-discrimination and social inclusion in VET focusing on the gender dimension of employability in the sector and VET for immigrants

Events

ECoVEM partner INES, in collaboration with CEA and LSI/Polytechnique, organized the SPECIAL PV workshop on the 4th and 5th of July in Ecole Polytechnique at Palaiseau/Paris. During this workshop, a poster session was organized by INES as a side event in the framework of ECoVEM.

The SEMICON Europa “20 Under 30” recognition program honors the industry’s brightest young people successful in their careers in the microelectronics sector. Nominees must be under the age of 30 as of November 13, 2023, and have two years' work experience in the microelectronics sector.

Forum on Vocational Excellence 2023
During the Forum on Vocational Excellence 2023 25-26 September in Amsterdam, education and training providers, governments and businesses of all CoVEs come together to share knowledge, inspire and learn from each other in this exciting European Year of Skills.

From September 21st to 25th, 2023, J-Arteck, EXOULANCH and TU Berlin conducted a summer school in microelectronics, offering modules in microelectronics and intercultural communication to Ukrainian and Russian refugees in Berlin.

On 27th June ECWT hosted a thematic workshop titled "Women in Tech: Let's break the silicon ceiling" at ERACON 2023. The workshop focused on the European Chips Act and skills shortage and provided practical guidance for achieving growing diversity, equity and inclusion in the European Microelectronics industry.

INES-PFE actively participated in all the meetings of the Skills Working Group of the European Solar PV Industry Alliance (ESIA). ECoVEM project approach and results were presented by INES in order to identify the common aforementioned challenges as well as to rise awareness of the role of microelectronics in photovoltaic industry and for green skills in general.

Teachers’ training: On the 27th of April 2023, ECoVEM partner INES-PFE delivered teachers’ training on ”Trends and advances in photovoltaic (PV) research and industry” for 17 high school teachers from all over France

Medals on competitions

The students of TU - Sofia N. Vitanov, I. Ivanov, Y. Jelekarski and V. Gospodinov won one gold, one silver and two bronze medals in Group A “Mathematics, informatics and computer sciences” and Group B "Natural and technical sciences, security and defence" in the Inter-University Mathematics Competition 2023.

The students from TU - Sofia performed brilliantly, won four medals including a gold medal and team ranking cups for each of the groups in the Tenth Anniversary National Student Olympiad in Computer Mathematics 10-12 November 2023.
